A variety of destinations in Alberta, Canada, beckon the traveller. Calgary Stampede, its annual event every July is a major crowd puller. Edmonton, the capital, has the largest mall in North America, and is also known as the festival city. Move a bit west and you begin to climb the Rocky Mountains. Banff & Jasper are two of the most popular destinations here. Read about all this in my article ‘Alluring Alberta’ that appears in the 11th Nov travel section of Asian Age newspaper.

Taiwan Day 3 & 4 Pics: Taipei and the north coast

So much packed into such a small island, it is a wonder. Retreating from the hills and lakes of central Taiwan, we took the high speed rail from Taichung and headed for the capital Taipei, though we intended to travel further north to the coast. Two hundred kilometres traversed in 40 minutes, yes, thats the equivalent of Delhi to Agra or Mumbai to Pune in less than an hour. No wonder we had lots of people commuting to work, totally possible to make it back home for dinner by evening.

Taiwan has beautiful coasts on the north as you can see from the pics below. Some of the resorts provide beautiful venues for marriages, with churches and bells in blue & white settings. And if you are already married, a great place to renew your vows.

Yehliu geological park is unlike anything else. Nature has thrown up rocks from under the seabed, rocks with various shapes like a Queen’s head, mushrooms, a human foot etc. One can’t wonder how nature tries to relate to us here.

And the last stop was at a Gold mining site, which used to be a huge mining area under the Japanese occupation, and is now a tourist spot to view a 200 kg block of solid yellow piece of gold.
